PREVIEW
We have a repeat from the World Cup 2010, where Denmark had to face Netherlands in the group stages. That ended 2-0 to the Dutch, and you would have to fancy them to win here again, based on recent performances.
The Netherlands have a truly frightening offence, led by Robin Van Persie and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who both top scored in their domestic leagues. Sneijder, Robben, Van Der Vaart, Kuyt...this looks a very solid team. The Dutch slipped up recently against Bulgaria, losing 2-1 but beat Slovakia 2-0 and thumped Northern Ireland 6-0 before the tournament. Even against England, they ran out 3-2 winners.
The Danes play good defensive football but they have suffered a blow just before the tournament as keeper Thomas Sorensen is injured. The team come into this off a 2-0 win over Australia, but the games before that give a better indication of how they will fare against the offence brought by the Dutch. Brazil beat this Danish side 3-1, while Russia claimed a 2-0 win over them. A similar score tonight looks possible.
There isn't much to say here because this is the first game of the tournament for both teams, and we shall have a better idea of how they approach the games as we go deeper into Euro 2012. It's too easy to rush out and stick money on a low priced Dutch team but who knows how they will defend, as they will surely be playing a high tempo attacking game. Will they get caught out in the back? I don't want to risk that.
I think it would be a good idea to look at the goalscorer markets, specifically at Huntelaar and Persie, who have been on a tear coming into this. Persie grabbed a couple in his last match, and if you're looking for an anytime scorer, or even first scorer, he's your man.
BETTING VERDICT
I think we should just stick to the Dutch attack. With the Danes missing their keeper, and recent results showing what the Danish defence does, I think we should go with the Netherlands to score more than once, which has a very good price over at Coral.
